Job purpose

 

Manage, support, and supervise OQEP owned facilities and plants for all electrical parts of equipment including maintenance, condition monitoring and operation of electrical parts of equipment (including power generators, substations, electrical power distribution system etc.) on a regular basis to ensure long term availability of electrical power system, equipment and to minimize the risk of unplanned shutdowns. Accountable for continuous flow of electrical power to plants, substations, and buildings.

Serve as the focal point for managing and maintaining the electrical power distribution network across the site, including 132 kV and 33 kV Overhead Lines (OHL), electrical substations, and related infrastructure. Ensure system reliability, effective maintenance execution, and compliance with safety & quality standards while overseeing contractors and supporting technical field teams. Implement and optimize preventive and corrective maintenance programs.

 

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

  • Act as the focal point for all maintenance activities related to Overhead Lines (132 kV and 33 kV), electrical substations, switchgears, and the site-wide electrical grid.
  • Develop and Manage maintenance service contracts for the entire electrical grid and associated distribution systems.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee preventive and corrective maintenance plans to ensure the safety, efficiency, and reliability of the electrical infrastructure.
  • Development, implement, and management of electrical SOPs (standard operating procedures) for operation & maintenance of entire electrical power system.
  • Management of annual budgets for OPEX, CAPEX, Shutdowns, and Inventory enhancement.
  • Provide input on electrical parts of equipment while ensuring adherence to quality standards, timelines and equipment specifications with an objective to improve equipment’s long-term reliability. Identify the critical issues, repetitive failure of electrical equipment. Lead/participate RCA (Root Cause Analysis) to avoid recurrence of failures/incidents and implement the recommendations.
  • Manage electrical system modifications to existing plant equipment and provide recommendations on the electrical aspects of the equipment. Prepare and submit the Management of Change (MOC) proposal for electrical system. Ensure that all electrical related modifications/changes/ additions are performed in compliance with existing design standards for plant and owned facilities. Coordinate efforts within the section to develop guidelines, specifications, best practices, and procedures for maintenance. Maintain technical expertise in functional areas.
  • Conduct routine inspections, performance assessments, and diagnostic tests on all electrical components and systems.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams, including field operators, HSE teams, and contractors, to ensure seamless communication and operational effectiveness.
  • Participate in design reviews related to projects, process control functions, Shutdown functions and Safety functions (e.g. P&ID, SAFE Chart, Cause & Effect Charts etc.), SAFOP, HAZOP/HAZID, Value engineering workshops etc.as required.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues in a timely manner to minimize downtime and maintain grid stability.
  • Monitor and analyze system performance data to recommend and implement improvements that enhance grid performance and resilience.
  • Liaison with stakeholders, vendors, OEMs, consultants to manage all the activities and electrical infrastructure.
  • Oversee contractors and third-party vendors in the execution of maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and safety procedures and systems.
  • Ensure that all maintenance activities are documented and comply with regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to on-site teams, helping them adhere to industry best practices in electrical grid maintenance.
  • Keep abreast of technological advancements and regulatory changes in the field of electrical power engineering.
  • Ensure compliance with electrical safety rules including lock out and tag out energy isolation procedures and standards.
  • Knowledge and understanding of various protection schemes and testing methods.
    Manage and oversee HV/LV electrical isolations related to the grid and associated systems.
  • Review, approve and manage e-PTW/PTWs for Electrical work or works performed within the vicinity of OHL or substations.
  • Familiarity of protection relay and CT&PT testing, functional checks and its requirements

 

  • Responsible for electrical safety systems and act as area authority for HV and LV systems. Ensure OQEP Safety and Quality control procedures are followed during the execution of all work and that a high standard of safety is achieved in all works.
  • Preparation, review & approval of HV system Grid switching Programs and ability to carry Grid power switching
  • Knowledge and Familiarity of Power transformer testing and requirements
  • Experience of primary and secondary OMICRON testing equipment (like CMC 356, CPC100, Testron etc.…)
  • Knowledge and working experience of substation automation systems, IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications.

Education requirements

  • Bachelor’s in Electrical Engineering, or related domain.

Language requirements

10+ years of relevant experience

 

  • 10 years of experience in electrical maintenance engineering, with emphasis on high-voltage systems (132/33kV), substations, and protection systems. Experience in the oil & gas or utility industry preferred.
  • At least 5 years in HV systems ≥132kV is preferable
  • Senior Authorized / Certified Electrical Person for high voltage (SAEP)
  • Ability to perform Risk Assessments for electrical HV works.
  • Competent in switching and isolation procedures in accordance with electrical safety standards and regulations.
  • Knowledge and experience in design, operation, maintenance of major electrical equipment e.g. Gas/Air insulated switchgear, power transformer, LV/HV motors, HV/LV cables including testing and commissioning requirements.
  • various specialized testing equipment e.g. primary and secondary OMICRON testing equipment (like CMC 356, CPC100, Testron etc.), Power analyzer, Generator/Motor analyzers- All test Pro/PdMA tester, Dilectric tester etc.
  • Knowledge and working experience of substation automation systems, IEC 61850 and GOOSE communications.
