Job Purpose: Provides strong and complex chemical assays for Polymers under TL Laboratory services Polymers scope’s, acting as owner of Lab Operations by: (1) Providing results and technical interpretation for complex chemical assays, (2) Test runs and environment /corrosion monitoring specialized methods (3) Utilizing advanced lab equipment and computers to conduct complex analysis and developing new analytical methods, (4) Develops and maintains the Lab Quality System, and (5) Guide Chemist and junior staff in the development of their function; in order to ensure the efficient quality and value added services, give the effective solutions and commit the technical requirements to optimize business performance and in turn profitability, to support operations.
The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.
Main Tasks and Responsibilities:
Scope of the role: High density polyethylene (HDPE) – PE (Univation Technologies) HDPE is made under controlled conditions by applying intense heat to petroleum to help create ethylene gas. During its production, the gas molecules will attach to form polymers, which then produce polyethylene. High density polyethylene plastic process (thermoplastic) is made from a string of ethylene molecules (hence, the poly part of polyethylene), and is known for being both lightweight and strong.
Linear low-density polyethylene (LLDPE) – PE (Univation Technologies) Linear low density polyethylene process involves the manufacturing via the copolymerization of ethylene and an alpha-olefin such as butene, hexene, or octene co-monomers. The co-monomers are most often polymerized using the Unipol process, which is also known as the gas phase process.
Polypropylene (PP) (Poliofine Technology, Novolen Technology/Lyndoll Basell Technology) Production of polypropylene takes place by slurry, solution, or gas phase process, in which the propylene monomer is subjected to heat and pressure in the presence of a catalyst system. Polymerization is achieved at relatively low temperature and pressure and the product yielded is translucent, but readily colored.
Accountabilities: Sampling: Reviews and rationalize complex sampling and testing frequency in coordination with PES and Operation and establish testing priorities. Senior Chemist: Analysing of organic and inorganic compounds to determine chemical and physical properties, composition, structure, relationships, and reactions, utilizing chromatography, spectroscopy, and various complex sophisticated analytical techniques. Compile and analyse complex test information to determine process or equipment operating efficiency and to diagnose malfunctions. Making recommendations based on their findings. Work under the guidance of supervision of TL laboratory. Interprets complex and specialized data analysis to advise PES and Operation in process troubleshooting. Developing and implementing laboratory procedures and quality control measures Develops Lab activities method statements and procedures for building up and maintaining Lab Quality system. Interpret results, databases for specifications, methods, and standards.
