Job purpose

Execute Control and Automation Works across Operated Assets sites and all related operations under Manager Operation & Maintenance Support scope as, as Technical Service provider of maintenance and execution of minor projects, modifications in accordance with the technical standards set by TSD to maintain the assets through performing routine maintenance troubleshooting and turning to the control system;  in order to ensure plant equipment availability, reliability & optimization of cost / resources while facilitating smooth operations of the plant to meet operational targets.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Receives assignment or work orders to executes all assigned works for C&A maintenance and calibration.
• Collect data from field and report them through proper communication channels.
• Receives assignment or work orders from supervisor and coordinates C/A activities with other peers for troubleshooting and repair works on distributed Control system and Logic controllers.
• Follow laid down procedures to undertake emergency shot down valves testing, and maintenance installations.
• Assist in troubleshooting and tuning on complex control loops
• Assist in programming of various Programmable Logic controllers.
• Maintains technical expertise in functional area.
• Carries out the technical evaluation of bids and generate the evaluation report.
• Coordinates efforts within the Section to develop guidelines, specifications, best practices and procedures for maintenance of pressure, level, flow, temperature, vibration and pH instruments.
• Maintains technical expertise in functional areas of process instrumentation and C&A.
• Execute Instrument and C&A maintenance services on planned / un-planned maintenance (CM, PM & TA) activities
• Execute, and execute projects initiated through MOC, RCA and another upgradation means as applicable.
• Providing Instrument and C&A technical and operational support to the upstream block 60 and Musandam Gas Plant all work for instruments calibration, control system, safeguarding system, Fire & Gas system and Fiscal Metering System and other related.
• Execute the assets registry, maintenance plans and bill of material for instrumentation and C&A Systems and equipment.    
• Participated in RCM studies and provide technical support to improve reliability and availability.   
• Determines long-term instrument policy and oversees detailed planning of maintenance activities and programs. 
• Coordinates efforts within the Section to develop guidelines, specifications, best practices and procedures for instrument (pressure, level, flow, temperature, vibration and pH instruments).
• Support operations to ensure equipment/system performance is within defined Operating Envelope, and regularly conduct Alarms management review.
• Prepare tender strategy and SOW for initiated projects and carry out the technical evaluation of bids and generate the evaluation report.
• Provide support in terms of instrument troubleshooting, upset conditions and abnormal situations, and conduct RCA for the same.
• Responsible to upgrade obsolete systems like but not limited to DCS, ESD/IPS, FGS, RTU and PLC systems.
• Participate in technical reviews, Design, HAZOP, IPF/SIL, SAT, FAT and other meetings as warranted.
• Responsible for review/approval of all Instrumentation related Documents and drawings.
• Ensure availability of valid Maintenance service contracts to all critical equipment and systems.
• Receives and analyses periodic reports on instruments maintenance and scheduled turnarounds and determines the best course of action for increasing the efficiency.
• Prepare annual CAPEX and OPEX Budget estimation for instrumentation, control and Safeguarding system.
• Manage the spare parts, ensure min/max inventory, and perform Monthly analysis to ensure the spares critical spares part availability. 
• Support Team lead to prepare procurement plan for instrumentation and C&A.
• Participate in digital transformation and initiate new ideas to improve the efficiency of Control & Automation systems.
• Perform Equipment and spare partis critically

Education requirements

Minimum Qualifications for this position is Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical/ Electrical/ Instrumentation Engineering or similar

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required), Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

• 8+ years of relevant experience

• Relevant experience in similar role (Oil & Gas experience preferred).
• Experience and knowledge in project planning, cost control, contract development, installation, trouble shooting, and start-up.
• Sound judgment in technical matters with good skills in engineering field materials specifications and international standards.
• Good experience in handling of Maintenance Contracts and shutdown related jobs.
• Experience working with instrument control loops
• Experience working with Systems, Applications and Products in data processing (SAP).
• Experience on Local control station/ Plant interface bus and DCS.
• Control, contract development, installation, trouble shooting, and start-up.
