Job purpose

  • Provide Geophysics domain support towards integrated geo-science assessment, evaluations focussed on exploration/appraisal of hydrocarbon resources, volumetric estimation, and petroleum system /geological risk analysis of (1) interpretation of geophysical data (such as 2D/3D seismic, borehole seismic/VSP, gravity, magnetic, EM etc.) to support basin/prospect /reservoir level integrated geoscientific evaluations/studies (2) Coordinate planning, acquisition, processing, and interpretation of seismic and other geophysical data, (3) Conduct QA/QC of 2D/3D seismic  processing, seismic reservoir characterisation studies and other geophysical data (4) Study, evaluate and propose potential hydrocarbon exploration plays/opportunities and contribute to  joint-studies  with other operators/partners/other companies.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Conduct the interpretation of geophysical data (such as 2D/3D seismic, well bore seismic/VSP, gravity, magnetic, EM etc.) to support basin/prospect /reservoir level integrated geoscientific evaluations for Petroleum exploration/appraisal/development.
  • Conduct 2D/3D seismic mapping, well seismic calibration, time-to-depth conversion, seismic attributes analysis and keep the geophysical database updated
  • Support Paleo-structural analysis
  • Conduct seismic facies and attribute analysis for depositional environment
  • Conduct hydrocarbon volumetric assessment (Probabilistic/Deterministic).
  • Conduct geological risk analysis of hydrocarbon plays/prospects/leads
  • Recommend new geophysical data API program to de-risk the play, prospect and leads. Support Value of Information analysis.
  • Coordinate planning, acquisition, processing, and interpretation of seismic and other geophysical data,
  • Conduct and support processing QA/QC of seismic and other geophysical data
  • Conduct/QA/QC seismic reservoir characterisation studies (Inversion, AVO etc.)
  • Study, evaluate and propose potential hydrocarbon exploration acreages/opportunities for investments/acquisitions
  • Carry out integrated studies to evaluate petroleum systems and participate in the assessment of play prospectivity.
  • Participate in JV exploration asset technical proceedings
  • Participate and contribute to joint study projects with other operators/partners/other companies.
  • Preparing robust geophysical maps, cross-sectional diagrams and reports concerning the results.
  • Developing models and applying software for the analysis and interpretation of data
  • Liaise with other team members to carry out subsurface evaluation and analysis to propose well locations and pick wells to fulfil business needs as well as defining necessary data gathering like logging, coring, etc.
  • Establish and formulate workflows, best practices, and procedures for OQ upstream, in the geophysical function.
  • Adhere to appropriate Subsurface Policies and Standards
  • Mentor and coaching Geoscience staff to improve their skills and develop them into self-sufficient performers
  • Ensure to Work safely and think proactively about personal safety and safety of others at work
  • Actively participate in, contribute to, and promote company occupational health, safety, security and environment culture.
  • Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the Company HSE and Security policies and procedures and meet company HSE goals and targets and participate in HSE programs.
  • Stand-by / on-call duties when required

Notable Working Conditions. Office environment, intensive computer screen use, sporadic visits to operation site.

Education requirements

  • BS Degree in Geology, relevant science subject or equivalent
  • MSc degree in geophysics, physics, mathematics or engineering (desirable)

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required), Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

 

  • 12+ years of relevant experience
  • Robust Experience in geophysical data interpretations workflows and methods for play mapping, prospect generation and evaluation, volumetric estimation, and geological risk analysis.
  • Demonstrated Experience in proposing exploration programs and exploratory drilling that led to hydrocarbon discovery
  • Work Experience in variety of geological/ basin settings.
  • Experience in New venture G&G evaluations. 
  • Exposure to 2D/3D seismic acquisition and processing
  • QA/QC Experience in 2D/3D seismic data processing/ reservoir characterization workflows
  • Geoscience knowledge, with experience in both geophysics and geology.
  • Experienced with both exploration and development upstream oil and gas activities
  • Relevant software experience in Landmark, Petrel and ArcGIS is preferred
  • Mastery level expert user of G&G interpretations systems
  • Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary team environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) with proficiency in written and spoken English
  • Track record of deadline delivery and result oriented with ability to prioritize and deliver
