Job purpose
Provide technical support in Petrophysics to advance integrated geoscience learnings and their implementation within Subsurface, with focus on acquisition, processing, and interpretation of petrophysical studies. Deliver competent petrophysical analysis and evaluation of exploration and development wells to determine reservoir properties and generate input data for resource assessments. Execute petrophysical evaluations, integrate petrophysical data, and conduct volumetric assessments to enhance geological interpretations. This role supports the discovery of significant oil and gas deposits through strategic exploration methods that leverage top talent, optimized processes, and advanced technologies in a safe and cost-effective manner.
The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Responsible of creation and/or evaluation “QA/QC” of logging programs acquisition (e.g. conventional and non-conventional); and supervising such activities
- Hands on log interpretation (and supervision of interpretation) of conventional and non-conventional logs (BHI, Sonic, NMR, pressure pretest, fluid sampling, etc.) including cased hole logging (e.g., production log)
- Hands on stand alone or in team integration of petrophysical data Interpretation of subsurface reservoir characterizations for both development and exploration (lead, prospect) type, for both Carbone and sandstone reservoir.
- Responsible for Calculation of reservoir volumetric (risked and un-risked) parameters such as saturation, porosity, m and n factors, etc.; both manually and using software
- Performing Value of Information analysis and cost analysis on subject related to petrophysical data acquisition or analysis
- Attend Technical Committee Meetings on behalf of OQEP as and when required to cover for PP elements (both exploration or production)
- Ensure deployment of new technology (including new software) in the PP arena and align such technology to OQEP and its partners.
- Play an active role in PP discussion raising OQEP profile by participating in international geo-science conference and workshop
- Ensure all evaluations and reports are documented in accordance with company’s Data Management Standards. Ensure to Work safely and think proactively about personal safety and safety of others at work
- Actively participate in, contribute to, and promote company occupational health, safety, security and environment culture.
- Ensure work is carried out in accordance with the Company HSE and Security policies and procedures and meet company HSE goals and targets and participate in HSE programs.
- Provide robust technical engineering expertise, support and create innovative solution related with the execution of Exploration Petrophysics process /discipline and ensure teams apply common engineering principles and concepts to their own teams' responsibilities. May handle a large scope of projects simultaneously, and in addition to performing tasks, provides guidance to junior engineers, trainees, and teams.
- Managing petrophysical related contract i.e. wireline, core analysis
- Manage petrophysical and core study etc.
- Manage petrophysical operations, which may require working outside regular hours, including weekends and public holidays
- Conduct site visits to witness logging operations as required.

Education requirements
|
Bachelor’s degree in petroleum or engineering Discipline or equivalent
|
Language requirements

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills
|
- Minimum 6 years of experience with an operator, preferably with experience in Exploration or New Ventures.
- Experience in multidisciplinary integrated teams and contribution to exploration opportunity risking and ranking.
- Experience in technical reviews, audits and preparation of Field Development Plans
- Sufficient exposure is required in logging operations, core measurements, laboratory experiment follow up, data interpretation, and logging contractor follow up and integrated reservoir studies
- Must be current with the latest industry tools and petrophysical interpretation techniques working with both clastic and carbonate reservoir systems
- Knowledgeable in petrophysical and geological analysis integration
- Ability to work on a variety of tasks in addition to traditional PP/evaluation responsibilities such as presentations for internal and external audiences, farm-in evaluations and assessment of production sharing contracts and joint operating agreements within the realm of Development and Exploration as well as creation and review of PP related contracts (e.g. software contract)
- Expertise on Techlog software
