Job purpose

 

Leading, planning and organizing implementation and supervision of RPI’s International Tax & Transfer Pricing end-to-end processes, under Head of Tax scope, acting as single point of accountability and owner of International Tax & Transfer Pricing Standards, end-to-end processes and services, and the primary communication link between the tax function and the business functions encompassing (1) the advisory on cross-border trade, (2) related party transactions, (3) global mobility of employees, (4) mergers & acquisitions, (5) international tax presence, and (6) tax transformation in accordance with the relevant international laws and regulations and in the light of the organization’s Tax Policy; in order to ensure compliance, manage risks, and optimize the organization's tax position at RPI.

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Accountabilities: 

 

Strategic Business Support

  • Perform proactive and strategic business support in International Tax & Transfer Pricing governance, risk management, process efficiency, and reputation which adds a valuable component to the entire RPI business.
  • Minimize tax costs and avoid unnecessary tax expenses arising from acts of omission or commission by identifying and avoiding risk areas and enjoying available tax benefits.
  • Endeavor to achieve enticing tax options to maximize the tax benefits that generate value for the organization.

International Tax Planning & Analysis

  • Develop and implement strategic tax planning for local and international taxes.
  • Continuously monitor, evaluate, and optimize the tax costs including the tax function’s operational cost.
  • Develop & perform tax forecasting processes and integrate them with strategic business planning.

Tax Structuring & Business Model Analysis

  • Proactively analyse and advise on existing or envisaged business operating models and identify key tax risks and opportunities, especially concerning tax costs, permanent establishment risks, and transfer pricing requirements.
  • Proactively analyse and advise on mergers and acquisitions in a way that ensures incurring the least possible tax costs and optimal tax position.

Transfer Pricing Advisory & Optimization

  • Proactively analyse and advise on existing or envisaged related party transactions considering local and international transfer pricing rules.
  • Continuously monitor, evaluate, and optimize the related party arrangements in light of business and legislative developments.
  • Ensure carrying out and maintaining proper and up-to-date functional analysis, benchmarking, and transfer pricing documentation.
  • Conduct a periodic review of related party transactions and work with the relevant business units to ensure that such transactions are properly documented, benchmarked, and fulfilling the arm’s length principle where appropriate in accordance with the applicable laws.

International Tax Developments & Risk Management

  • Advise and provide guidance to the tax team and relevant business units concerning key cross-border activities or related party transactions.
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory tax law developments, communicate the effects of these developments to management and the tax team, and create strategies to capitalize on changes to tax legislation.
  • Proactively analyze and advise on any risks that may arise from the global mobility of employees.

Stakeholder Management & Communication

  • Proactively connect online & in person with the relevant teams locally and globally to ensure adherence to the tax operating guidelines and identify any domestic or international tax risks or opportunities that may arise due to either business developments or tax law changes.
  • Effectively communicate and collaborate with the tax team with respect to tax compliance, common tax activities, exchange of information, and task coordination.
  • Conduct periodic awareness sessions on tax operating guidelines for the relevant teams to ensure a proper understanding of pertinent tax risks and their mitigative actions.
  • Represent the business before the relevant tax authorities to discuss pertinent tax matters after obtaining the relevant internal authorization.

Tax Transformation

  • Manage tax transformation initiatives including the business adaptation to new legislations, operational improvements, and tax digitalization.
  • Establish and maintain project management tools for the tax transformation initiatives including project planning and progress tracking.

Leadership

  • Exercise an adequate level of effective leadership including influence, engagement, and communication with the pertinent stakeholders.
  • Coach & mentor members of the tax team to greater levels of skills & professionalism.

Education requirements

  • University degree in accounting or finance / ACCA / CA / CPA

Language

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken Arabic & English (required)

  • Minimum 12 total of years of experience &  7 years’ experience in a similar role.

 

  • Essential expertise in international tax management and transfer pricing applications.

 

  • Experience in leading various complexities of taxation including tax structuring, cross-border trade, risk management, compliance, and tax optimization.

 

  • Experience in tax accounting, tax planning, and strategic business advisory.

 

  • Experience in tax transformation and project management.

 

  • Experience in oil & gas/energy industry.
