Job purpose
Provide technical support and guidance regarding the cost-effective selection of materials, corrosion mitigation, corrosion monitoring strategies to ensure the technical integrity of the materials applied in subsurface and surface hydrocarbon production, processing and transportation systems throughout their design life. through (1) Providing technical support to projects and operations with failure analysis & defect elimination of materials, (2) Extend the life cycle of valuable operating equipment and optimize efficiencies and avoid expensive unforeseen shutdowns in order to ensure and support Asset Integrity.
The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Execute materials, monitor and control programs to meet the required company standards, applicable codes of practice department strategies and company policy.
- Verify Engineering Contractors’ materials selection reports.
- Ensure that material selection and corrosion mitigation strategies are developed to maintain technical integrity over the design life.
- Ensure materials are selected in line with international standards and specifications.
- Actively pursue the evaluation and application of new technology in subject matter field to optimize future developments in terms of cost and operability.
- Participate in audits of manufacturers, suppliers, contractors, and materials testing laboratories as needed.
- Ensure a sound economic evaluation of material/corrosion management options.
- Ensure that the background of the material selection and corrosion management strategies is understood and accepted by other disciplines and are properly documented for future reference.
- Verify Engineering Contractors’ materials selection reports.
- Act as a specialist to the technical service department – Materials including, root cause analysis (RCA), management of change (MOC) and HAZOP.
- Act as specialist for legislation relating to inspection services to provide input on new capital projects and planned maintenance works.
- Provide input on risk assessment and scoped items (inspection & QA/QC activities) into the annual maintenance plan and worklists.
- Leadership direction, decisions and personal work that result in:
- Maximized equipment availability through effective corrosion control programs.
- Minimized instructive inspections through effective NDT techniques.
- Minimized turnaround execution days and maximized time between turnarounds
- Risk-Based Inspection Programs
- Defect elimination and root cause analysis of all repeat material issues
- Carries out the technical evaluation of tenders and generates the evaluation report.
- Coordinate with Operations, Maintenance and Engineering Services on matters and problems through to proposed projects.
- Ensure compliance to all relevant safety, health and environmental procedures in the section and company to promote a healthy and safe work environment.
- Provide mentoring and coaching for young engineers, and develop training program for the Material & Corrosion engineers

Education requirements
|
- Bachelor’s in Mechanical or Metallurgical Engineering, or related.
|
|
Language requirements
|
Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required), Arabic - Native (desirable)
|

Background and experience
|
Competencies and skills
|
|
- 8+ years of experience in corrosion, materials, and asset integrity, preferably in oil & gas or heavy industry.
- Adaptable and motivated general management strategist who relishes challenges.
- Working knowledge of MCE, D&D, E&I
- Must have industry certifications such as ASME, API, NDT or NACE
- Knowledge in software applications like Bentley APM, PI, and CMMS etc.
- Certification Holder of National Association of Corrosion Engineers (NACE (AMPP) certification is an advantage
- Knowledge of inspection, corrosion engineering, welding, materials and QA / QC.
- Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc.
- Understanding of Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
