Job purpose
Provide subject matter expertise in Wells and Production Technology to support investment valuations, technical due diligence, and strategic decision-making within the Commercial function. The role delivers authoritative technical input on well performance, production optimization, and production technology assessments, integrating these into commercial evaluations, opportunity screening, and portfolio analysis.
The position will act in accordance with the OQEP’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, QHSE & Energy Management System requirements standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Provide expert technical input on wells and production technology to support investment valuations, asset acquisitions, divestments, and farm-in/farm-out evaluations within the Commercial function.
- Lead technical assessments of well performance, artificial lift systems, production enhancement opportunities, and production technology solutions in support of commercial transactions and portfolio reviews.
- Conduct and quality-assure well and production data analyses, including production decline analysis, well surveillance reviews, and production system optimisation studies to underpin economic evaluations.
- Provide independent technical review and challenge of wells and production assumptions used in investment cases, business development notes, and project initiation notes.
- Support due diligence processes for upstream opportunities, including data room visits and technical assessment of well stock, production infrastructure, and technology maturity of third-party assets.
- Collaborate with the Economics & Planning function to integrate wells and production uncertainty ranges into economic models, sensitivity analyses, and risk-weighted valuations.
- Assess the technical and commercial viability of production technology applications including EOR/IOR schemes, well intervention programs, and production optimisation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain wells and production technology standards, tools, and workflows relevant to the Commercial function's investment evaluation process.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers within the team.
- Represent OQEP in technical forums, joint venture meetings, and partner discussions on wells and production technology matters as required.
- Liaise with operated and non-operated asset teams to gather wells and production data and validate technical assumptions used in commercial evaluations.
- Contribute to the preparation of investment proposals, executive summaries, and board-level presentations related to upstream opportunities.
- Ensure all technical evaluations and reports are documented in accordance with company Data Management Standards.
- Support the continuous improvement of valuation methodologies and best practices within the Investment Valuations & Strategy function.
- Actively participate in and promote OQEP's HSE culture, ensuring all work is carried out in accordance with HSE policies, procedures, and targets.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Education requirements
|
- Bachelor's degree in Petroleum Engineering or related engineering discipline — Required
- Postgraduate qualification (MSc or PhD in Petroleum/Reservoir Engineering) or professional certification (SPE membership, Certified Petroleum Engineer) — Preferred

Competencies and skills
|
- 8+ years of wells and production technology experience with an upstream oil & gas operator or service company. Preferred experience with investment opportunities evaluation, VDRs, Commercial and Business Development Interface. Local and international exposure with various environments and hydrocarbon fields settings.
- Proven experience in well performance analysis, production optimisation, and artificial lift system design and evaluation.
- Strong background in production data analysis, well surveillance, and well intervention planning.
- Experience in technical evaluations for commercial transactions (acquisitions, divestments, farm-ins, JVs) with a focus on well stock and production system assessment.
- Familiarity with Oman's upstream regulatory environment and concession/EPSA framework is an advantage.
- Experience working in multidisciplinary teams alongside reservoir engineers, geoscientists, economists, and commercial professionals.
- Track record of delivering technical evaluations under tight commercial deadlines.

- Experience with volumetric estimation and probabilistic resource assessment tools.
- Computer literate with expertise in MS Office, including advanced Excel for data analysis.
- Knowledge of economic modelling principles and their interface with subsurface inputs.
- Familiarity with PRMS/SPE reserves classification and reporting standards.
