|
Job purpose
Provide SAP-specific technical guidance and design assurance under the delegated authority of the SAP Technical Manager. The role acts as a Subject Matter Expert for SAP technical architecture, integration standards, clean-core alignment, security-by-design, and solution scalability across SAP landscapes. It contributes to technical standards and reference patterns, reviews SAP technical designs before implementation, and works closely with SAP Basis, Integration, Security/GRC, ABAP, and delivery teams to support SAP solutions that are secure, compliant, resilient, and aligned with OQ architecture principles and business priorities. The role provides SAP-specific technical design assurance within the SAP Technical domain and aligns with OQ architecture principles, target-state direction, and cross-platform standards.
The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities
|
SAP System Architecture
|
- Provide expert-level guidance and design assurance for SAP technical architecture, including SAP S/4HANA landscapes, technical components, integration touchpoints, and architecture principles, to support scalability, performance, reliability, resilience, and clean-core alignment.
- Collaborate with SAP Basis, Integration, SAP Security/GRC, ABAP, infrastructure teams, SAP-managed service counterparts, and business stakeholders to review and align SAP technical architecture with business needs, approved standards, and OQ’s SAP operating model.
- Review SAP technical designs before build and provide recommendations through the Manager SAP Technical approval route to ensure alignment with approved architecture, security, compliance, integration, and governance standards.

Application
|
- Provide expert SAP technical guidance and design assurance to support SAP solutions being designed, enhanced, and integrated in line with approved standards, business requirements, clean-core principles, and OQ’s SAP operating model.
- Review SAP technical specifications and solution designs before build to ensure alignment with architecture standards, extensibility patterns, interface requirements, security-by-design, and compliance expectations.
- Provide technical guidance to demand, delivery, SAP Basis, Integration, SAP Security/GRC, ABAP, and business teams to ensure proposed SAP changes are technically feasible, scalable, supportable, and aligned with business priorities.
- Promote SAP technical best practices, knowledge sharing, and design consistency across SAP application changes, enhancements, integrations, and technical solution decisions.
- Identify SAP technical risks related to application changes and recommend mitigation actions covering integration impact, system compliance, security, performance, resilience, and operational supportability.

SAP Development and Customization
|
- Provide design assurance and technical input for SAP development and customization delivered by ABAP, Fiori/UI5, integration, vendor, and delivery teams.
- Review custom development approaches for alignment with clean-core principles, approved extensibility patterns, coding standards, security expectations, upgrade impact, and operational supportability.
- Provide technical oversight and quality assurance for custom development deliverables without owning ABAP, Fiori/UI5, or integration delivery execution.

SAP Integration and Interface Management
|
- Provide high-level SAP technical architecture input on integration and interface requirements to ensure alignment with approved SAP standards, business needs, security requirements, and OQ’s SAP operating model.
- Review SAP integration designs at architecture and risk level to identify key risks related to data flow, security, performance, resilience, monitoring, and operational supportability.
- Coordinate with SAP Basis, Integration, SAP Security/GRC, ABAP, SAP-managed service counterparts, and vendors to support integration-related technical reviews and issue resolution.
- Support the definition and improvement of SAP interface documentation, monitoring expectations, error-handling principles, and ownership clarity across integration touchpoints without replacing SAP Integration Expert ownership of detailed integration design and delivery.

SAP Upgrade and Migration
|
- Support SAP upgrades, release changes, and platform transitions by providing SAP technical governance input from planning and preparation through execution readiness and post-go-live stabilization.
- Provide technical review of upgrade and migration impacts covering OQ-owned dependencies, interfaces, security, testing, business continuity, operational readiness, and SAP-managed service responsibility boundaries.
- Coordinate with SAP Basis, SAP-managed service providers, project delivery, functional teams, integration, security, and business stakeholders to ensure technical risks and dependencies are identified, tracked, and addressed.

SAP Performance Optimization
|
- Identify performance bottlenecks and optimization opportunities within SAP systems by reviewing system metrics, technical patterns, workload trends, interface behaviour, and operational feedback.
- Recommend and coordinate performance improvement actions with SAP Basis, SAP-managed service providers, infrastructure, integration, ABAP, functional, and vendor teams, within the applicable OQ and SAP responsibility boundaries.
- Support review of performance testing and benchmarking outcomes to assess system performance, scalability, and reliability under different workloads and usage scenarios.

SAP Security and Compliance
|
- Collaborate with SAP Security/GRC, SAP Basis, Integration, ABAP, infrastructure, SAP-managed service counterparts, and vendors to review security-by-design requirements during SAP technical design and architecture review.
- Provide SAP technical input on access governance, privileged access, segregation of duties, logging, monitoring, auditability, vulnerability remediation, and compliance requirements in coordination with SAP Security/GRC control owners and without owning operational access administration.
- Review SAP technical changes and solution designs to identify security, compliance, resilience, and operational risks before implementation into production environments.
- Support SAP audit, risk, and compliance activities by providing technical clarification, evidence review, and input on SAP technical controls, without replacing the ownership of control owners.
- Recommend improvements to SAP technical controls, standards, documentation, and governance practices in alignment with OQ policies, the SAP RISE operating model, SAP-managed service responsibilities, and applicable compliance requirements.

Education requirements
|
- Minimum Qualifications for this position are a bachelor’s degree in IT or related disciplines.
- Master’s degree in relevant field.

|
Competencies and skills
|
- A minimum of 8–10 years’ experience in SAP technical architecture or senior SAP technical roles, with exposure to standards, design review, and cross-team technical advisory activities.
- Hands-on background in SAP technical roles, with expertise in SAP system architecture, integration architecture review, clean-core principles, and technical design assurance.
- Experience with enterprise applications integrated with SAP, such as laboratory, environmental, operational, or other business systems used in OQ’s landscape.
- Experience in application development methodologies and integration techniques sufficient to review and govern designs without owning development or integration delivery.
- Working experience in industries like Oil & Gas, Energy and Utilities is preferable.
- Experience reviewing or contributing to enterprise integration, APIs, and service-oriented architecture solutions.
- Working knowledge of OQ’s SAP-enabled Oil & Gas business processes across relevant areas such as finance, procurement, maintenance, supply chain, projects, reporting, integrations, and asset operations.
- Working knowledge of SAP S/4HANA, BW/BI, SAP GRC, Solution Manager, SAP BTP/CPI, SAP Cloud Connector, the SAP RISE operating model, SAP-managed service responsibilities, and related SAP technical components used across OQ’s landscape.
- Ability to assess SAP technical requirements in an Oil & Gas operating context without assuming ownership of functional solution design, ABAP development, SAP Basis operations, SAP Security/GRC administration, or detailed integration delivery.
