Job Purpose

Execute, monitor and measure international market / customers sales performance to strengthen the price accuracy and minimizing commercial impact, acting as interface between Commercial and Scheduling sales Operations; to support in planning activity with commercial performance insights as well as participate in new projects initiative and/or business improvements for OQ8.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

 

Market Research & Analysis:

Conduct in-depth market analysis for crude oil, feedstock, and refined products such as gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and petrochemical feedstocks.

• Monitor global and regional supply-demand trends, trade flows, pricing structures, and refinery margins.

• Analyze the impact of macroeconomic factors, geopolitical events, regulatory changes, and technological advancements on the oil and gas market.

Price Forecasting & Trend Analysis:

• Develop price forecasts for crude oil, refinery products, and feedstocks using advanced statistical models and market intelligence tools.

• Provide short-term and long-term forecasts to support procurement, production planning, and sales strategy.

Data Collection & Reporting:

• Collect, interpret, and present market data from various sources, including market reports, trade publications, and governmental agencies.

• Prepare regular and ad hoc reports and presentations for senior management and other stakeholders to support business decisions.

Market Intelligence:

• Track competitor activities, refinery expansions, new project developments, and shifts in market dynamics.

• Provide insights into potential market opportunities, risks, and competitive threats.

Collaboration & Strategy Development:

• Collaborate with refinery operations, procurement, and trading teams to align market insights with business goals.

• Assist in developing market entry strategies, pricing models, and long-term business planning for refinery products and crude sourcing.

• Conduct scenario planning and risk assessments to evaluate the impact of market volatility on refinery operations and profitability.

• Provide recommendations on hedging strategies and risk mitigation plans.

  • Provide input to the production plan (LP Input) and insights with assumptions to the Global Market within Commercial and forecast pricing for short term / long term strategic plans.
  • Develop clear analysis of actual sales and report deviation to conceptualize the SLA on any penalties of storage surcharge.
  • Monitor off takers overdue payments and ensure all stakeholders are following the steps in the process leading to payment of invoices of exported product against the agreed deal governed by Refinery Sales Agreement. Escalate delays and recommend corrective action to ensure continuous operations of the business.
  • Support feasibility studies on new projects initiative or business improvements for OQ8 Refinery to yield off best net back, in relation to supporting improvement within the commercial team.
  • Critically evaluating information gathered from multiple sources to challenge the projected local demand to yield off actual realistic demand that can be cascaded Domestic Sales, for supply demand strategy, and systems reconciling consistency conflicts, de-composing high-level information into details, abstracting up from low-level information to a general understanding to finally provide insights into the real issues the business is facing and recommend action plan to the functions to address such issues.
  • Daily interaction and communication within other teams in production planning and Commercial.

External:  Plastic convertors, compounders, engineers, consultants, end-users etc

Education requirements

Diploma or Bachelor degree in relevant field.

Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in market analysis, forecasting, or strategy development, with a focus on the oil and gas refinery sector.

  •  Relevant experience in same function, preferable same role
  • Proficiency in market analysis tools, statistical software, and databases such as Bloomberg, Reuters, or Platts.
  • Strong understanding of global oil and gas markets, including crude oil, feedstock, and refined products.Can develop accurate short-term market forecasts for key markets
  • Experience Price Forecasts / Volume Availability with grades / Logistic costs / Legal support for key markets
  • Strong communication and presentation skills, with experience delivering insights to senior management and cross-functional teams.
  • Knowledge of Marketing Companies and their processes.
  • Clear understanding of Marketing business’s regulations.
  • Able to develop branding and value propositions for the products
  • Leadership, Strategic thinking, Influencing, negotiation, teamwork.
