Job purpose

                                                                                                                

The Chief Portfolio Officer (CPO) is responsible for steering the strategic direction of OQ Group's asset portfolio. The role requires balancing portfolio optimization with strategic acquisitions and divestments, driving value creation across OQ’s energy, industrial, and alternative energy assets. The CPO will focus on leveraging M&A, asset management, and market insights to ensure OQ’s portfolio remains competitive and aligned with global energy transition trends, financial targets, and shareholder expectations.

As a key member of the Executive Leadership Team (ELT), the Chief Portfolio Officer (CPO) is responsible for strategically managing OQ Group’s asset portfolio to maximize value, lead divestments, and oversee high-impact mergers and acquisitions (M&A). The CPO will define and execute portfolio management strategies that align with OQ’s long-term growth objectives, ensuring the company’s portfolio evolves in line with global market trends, sustainability goals, and competitive industry standards.

 

The position will act in accordance with the Group’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Portfolio Strategy & Optimization:

  • Develop a forward-looking portfolio strategy that maximizes value, optimizes asset allocation, and positions OQ Group as a global leader in both traditional and renewable energy markets.
  • Align the portfolio strategy with OQ’s long-term vision and global energy trends, focusing on diversifying risk while enhancing return on investment.
  • Ensure the portfolio remains agile and adaptable to shifting market dynamics, regulatory changes, and sustainability goals.
  • Lead the review and optimization of the portfolio, identifying core and non-core assets, and implementing value-maximizing strategies for both.

Global Asset Management & Value Creation:

  • Oversee the entire lifecycle of OQ’s assets, from acquisition to operational management and divestiture, ensuring each asset generates maximum value.
  • Leverage data-driven insights to manage asset performance, operational efficiency, and financial returns, ensuring assets align with OQ’s profitability goals and sustainability targets.
  • Implement best practices for asset performance management, utilizing digital transformation, data analytics, and industry-leading operational techniques to enhance asset productivity.
  • Champion value-creation initiatives through asset rationalization and strategic partnerships, enhancing portfolio value.

Mergers, Acquisitions, and Divestments:

  • Lead and execute all M&A and divestment strategies, focusing on identifying opportunities for growth or exit that align with OQ’s strategic direction.
  • Manage high-value, complex transactions, including joint ventures, alliances, and asset swaps, with a focus on achieving financial and strategic benefits for the group.
  • Drive negotiations and manage relationships with external parties, including potential buyers, sellers, financial institutions, and regulators, to secure optimal outcomes for OQ.
  • Lead rigorous due diligence processes, ensuring thorough evaluation of target assets, risks, and alignment with corporate growth strategies.

 Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance:

  • Establish and implement comprehensive risk management for the portfolio, mitigating financial, operational, and market risks associated with asset management and transactions, in collaboration with Enterprise Risk Management.
  • Ensure all M&A and divestment activities adhere to global best practices and regulatory requirements, working closely with legal, financial, and compliance teams to safeguard OQ’s interests.
  • Foster a culture of risk awareness and prudent financial management within the portfolio management team, balancing growth with risk mitigation.

Global Market Insight & Trend Analysis:

  • Maintain a deep understanding of global energy markets, emerging trends, and industry innovations, ensuring that OQ’s portfolio is aligned with market opportunities and competitive forces.
  • Stay ahead of geopolitical, environmental, and economic shifts that impact the energy sector, adjusting the portfolio to respond to global energy transitions and sustainability goals.
  • Leverage market intelligence and competitive analysis to shape strategic decisions on investments, divestments, and resource allocation.

Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Collaborate with the Executive Leadership Team and the Board of Directors to align portfolio management strategies with OQ’s broader business objectives and shareholder expectations.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in asset management, M&A, finance, and legal departments to ensure seamless execution of portfolio strategies.
  • Build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders, including government agencies, joint venture partners, regulators, and financial institutions, to secure OQ’s interests in transactions and portfolio management.
  • Represent OQ Group in high-level discussions, negotiations, and international forums, advocating for the company's strategic priorities and portfolio initiatives.
  • Build strategic leadership and capabilities development within the function and ensure readiness of effective succession.

Education requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, Engineering, or related field (MBA or CFA preferred).

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • 18+ years of experience in portfolio management, M&A, investment, or asset management, with a proven track record in a senior leadership role within a global energy company.
  • Extensive experience managing large, complex asset portfolios across diverse sectors, with a focus on energy, refineries and petrochemical, manufacturing, utilities and alternative energy.
  • Deep understanding of global energy markets, valuation methodologies, financial analysis, and risk management.
  • Strategic Vision: Ability to set and execute a long-term vision for OQ’s portfolio, ensuring alignment with corporate strategy and global market dynamics.
  • Transactional Leadership: Expertise in leading complex M&A and divestment transactions, with proven skills in negotiation, due diligence, and deal structuring.
  • Value Maximization: Strong focus on creating shareholder value through effective asset management and portfolio optimization strategies.
  • Risk & Compliance Expertise: Deep knowledge of regulatory frameworks, risk mitigation strategies, and financial compliance.
  • Leadership & Influence: Proven ability to lead large teams and influence key stakeholders at the highest levels, including external partners, regulators, and financial institutions.
