Job purpose

Lead effective operational/ Engineering support to team members daily, focusing on the delivery of the Operating Plan in the refinery assigned  Sub -Complex / Area:  Heavy Oils  (CDU/VDU/SGP/LTU/KTU/DCU), Hydroprocessing (HCU/DHT/HPU/PSA), and Sulfur Utilities WWTP under  Manager Operation Complex (Respectably), for the assigned Area unit, acting as the technical engineering leader, through; (1) Leading by setting a good example and engaging the team to have an engineering common approach regarding troubleshooting and technical issues of the operation  (2) Lead the plant technical assessment and provide daily support on the technical operation and maintenance engineering activities, (3) Lead technical analysis of plant operations; to ensure plant operations achieve the production targets under the engineering and technical standards with maximum efficiency and effeteness and specific plant Area unit throughput/products meets required specifications most economically and safely.

The position will act in accordance with the OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Oman’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives

Main tasks and responsibilities

• Lead the technical analysis/engineering assessment of the operation in the assigned area.
• Lead the analysis to ensure operations resources are adequately qualified and fully comply with all operations requirements.
• Lead and coordinate technical and engineering  support for
  • Operation and maintenance plans
  • Lead the evaluation and review all major operational highlights and constraints experienced in the assigned area.
  • Provides technical engineering feedback and recommendations on plant status regularly

  • PSM
  • Internal and External audit
  • KPIs
  • Risk assessment

• Lead the technical assessment of plant performance and provide recommendations and actions to maximize the operational KPIs
• Provide engineering insights regarding Operation and maintenance plans
• Coordinate engineering efforts with the operations teams and the other team members to implement a continuous improvement culture in terms of plant performance, safety, and integrity  

Key interactions

Internal: Works with the Operations Manager, employees, and others as required

External: Contractors. External agencies as required.

Notable Working Conditions. Field Operations and office environment, Moderate to intensive computer screen use.

Education requirements

Minimum Qualifications for this position is a Bachelors degree in Engineering

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required) | Arabic - Native (desirable)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

• 10+ years experience in the oil refining industry.
• Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in a similar role / Team Leader in an oil refinery within the Petrochemical industry.
• Working knowledge of the Refining process and plant equipment.
• Solid knowledge of Refinery SOP
• Solid engineering background on downstream  operations
• Good understanding of risk and risk management.
• Strong technical knowledge of the refinery process and plant equipment.
• Knowledge of most of the following process technologies:
  • Heavy Oils CDU/VDU/SGP/LTU/KTU/DCU
  • Hydroprocessing   HCU/ DHT/HPU/PSA
  • Sulphur SRU/ARU/SWS/CAR/CSW
  • Utilities/ WWTP
