Job purpose

Provides professional technical expertise, analysis, troubleshooting, and operation support for Rotating Equipment engineering services under Manager Engineering Services scope; through (1) Development of new projects and improvements in rotating equipment, (2) Preparing, reviewing, analysing, and making cost estimates, design work connected with minor and major capital investment and expense items, for modifications and alterations to existing systems or installation of new systems, either by Maintenance Department or through external contractors, and (3) ensuring that all engineering work is completed on schedule, on budget and in accordance with project specification & company requirements; in order to ensure that the equipment design meets the approved engineering design criteria, applicable code & standard and functional requirements including compliance with department strategy and project specifications.

 

Implement continuous improvements of rotating equipment/services, tasks, and support N-4 Lead/Manager Engineering Services in implementing key Rotating Engineering initiatives to maximize plant availability.

 

The position will act in accordance with the OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Oman’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Coordinate with other departments (Operation, Maintenance, Planning & other department involved in project execution/maintenance of rotating equipment) to discuss and proactively resolve issues.
  • Provide general rotating equipment engineering support to the organization such as;
  • Provide input in all aspects of capital improvement projects from conceptual design through start-up.
  • Facilitate technical / engineering support to refinery/petrochemical operation and maintenance staff.
  • Assist in developing conceptual & preliminary engineering and design/re-design of all rotating equipment for operational projects (optimization & rectification).
  • Provide engineering support for all rotating equipment failure incidents and advice on the correct course of action (equipment design modification if required) to ensure existing assets failure are repaired on time and optimized.
  • Provide input of technical & engineering support in the selection of materials and prescribing specifications for repairs, redesign, and alternations of rotating equipment.
  • Review design specifications and technical documentation for all rotating equipment related to mechanical engineering project execution.
  • Prepare/develop scope of work for repair/overhaul of rotating equipment and evaluation of bids technically and commercially as per Company’s procedures
  • Prepare data sheets/specifications, finalize sizing, layout, estimate capacity and power requirement for rotating equipment and system involving rotating equipment.
  • Support rotating services (maintenance team & vendors) in the development of repair procedures for critical equipment, capital spares, and unique equipment.
  • Performs evaluation of external contractor’s performance and undertake site visits & conduct routine inspection of mechanical engineering (Rotating) projects to ensure applicable standards and project specification requirements are met.
  • Conduct failure analyses and causal investigation of machinery failures utilizing OEM, maintenance best practice, and industry specialists as required.
  • Maintain contacts with original equipment manufacturers, vendors, and service providers for major and critical equipment and drive continuous improvement in their performance.
  • Ensure project punch-list items are closed out and provide input for the close-out report.

Education requirements

Minimum qualification required is a college graduate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemistry, or equivalent

Language requirements 

Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

Background and experience

Competencies and skills

  • Engineer: 5-8 years of relevant experience
  • Senior Engineer: 8+ years of relevant experience

 

Both:   

  • Engineer role within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, with experience in rotating equipment
  • Experience and well versed in field investigation, inspections, troubleshooting, performance checks, data compilation, etc.
  • Understanding of Process Plant (P& ID / PFD) & Engineering drawings and OEM manuals.
  • Knowledge in software applications like Meridium, PI, and RBI, etc 
  • Good knowledge and expertise of SAP (PM & MM & FM Modules) Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS)
  • Computer knowledge in MS Office applications like MS Word, MS Excel, etc.
  • Well versed in international code & standard:
  •  
  • API 610, 674, 675, 682, 617, 618, 673, 616, 611/612 etc. NFPA
  • Experience with Centrifugal Pumps, Centrifugal Compressors, Gear Boxes, Turbo expanders, Gas turbines, steam turbines, Fans, and blowers
  • Experience in rotating equipment condition monitoring, thermodynamic performance data analysis
  • Good experience and knowledge of maintenance processes, handling of Maintenance Contracts, and shutdown-related jobs.
  • Good knowledge in Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and HSE plans.
  • Familiar with techniques for ensuring data integrity with various integration of information/ reports
