Job purpose
Apply and maintain the Environmental Management Plan across OQ8 in line with the HSSE function, its practices & principles; through (1) the Implementation and monitoring of compliances with environmental policies and carrying out the daily environmental protection activities, (2) Providing appropriate and timely environmental engineering expertise and support to OQ8 project, operations, and activities in areas such as air quality, waste, clean water, and pollution, etc. (2) Coordinate the environmental permitting processes, and (4) Interface between Company and Lender's environmental consultants; in order to comply with local and international environmental regulations as well as those set by the organization and lenders, while ensuring compliance and implement those programs and zero harm to people, assets and environment.
The position will act in accordance with the OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Oman’s government & other legal justification’s, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Main tasks and responsibilities
- Maintain oversight of the environmental performance of existing activities to ensure OQ8 project and operations meets all required regulatory requirements and organizational objectives.
- Identify future environmental issues and their likely impact on OQ8project activities and develop integrated plans and strategies with affected stakeholders in order to address the issues in the most efficient and effective manner.
- Develop and maintain effective relationships (internal and external) in order to ensure that the OQ8 project and operations can appropriately lead to wider environmental initiatives that influence OQ 8project activities, operations and enhance its reputation among stakeholders.
- Support development of the annual Environmental & Social Plan at HSSE in line with OQ8 business plan and HSSE strategy.
- Evaluate and provide advice regarding day-to-day operations progress associated with pollution prevention, waste management, air quality, water quality, and related environmental programs.
- Record analyse and report progress regulatory compliance efforts and other programs applicable at the site including stormwater management, employee training, recordkeeping/reporting, and other associated HSSE programs at a facility.
- Operate the Environment & Social Management System (ESMS).
- Oversees OQ8 Project and operations Waste Management Plan, in line with environmental laws and regulations in force.
- Carry out environment inspections regularly and follow up on outstanding environmental issues.
- Record and monitoring the progress of studies on emissions, wastewater management, soil pollution, etc. along with other departments in OQ8, using regional and international ‘best practices in the environment.
- Monitoring visit of lenders E&S independent Consultants and ensure compliance to Environment and Social Action Plan.
- Track applicable laws & regulations with specific emphasis on Soil, Air & Water quality, noise levels and hazardous waste and evaluate the potential impact of these laws on the operations of OQ8’s facilities.
- Review Environment Impact Assessments activities to ensure that OQ8project and its staff are adhering to environmental policies and standards.
- Coordinate the Environmental permitting process at OQ8 Project and operations
- Monitor and facilitate implementation of Biodiversity Action Plan.

Internal: Liaise with the colleagues and stakeholders for day to day work including Department managers, Maintenance, Operations, Technical Services, Engineering, and Shift staff
External: Acts as liaison between Government offices, External regulators, lenders Environmental consultants, Neighboring industries, Universities and research organization, Industry bodies, Ministers, and political decision-makers

Education requirements
|
Minimum qualifications for this position is a bachelor degree in environmental engineering or equivalent
|
Language requirements
|
Excellent knowledge of written, read, and spoken English (required)

Competencies and skills
|
- 8+ years of relevant experience
- Experience within the Oil and Gas industry preferable in Refinery, Petrochemical, and Petroleum processes.
- Bachelor's degree in environmental engineering, science, civil or chemical engineering.
- Fundamentals of HSSE - Comprehensive knowledge of occupational health & safety. Detailed understanding of general industry standards and the requirements of the more frequently referenced standards.

- An acquaintance of Environmental processes and management.
- Conversant with National and international laws & regulations governing environmental issues and refining/petrochemicals.
- Conversant with IFC Performance Standards and Equator Principles
- Ability to improve the Environment perspective for OQ8 and advice, steer and direct accordingly.
- Ability to cope with uncertainties and knowledge on how they will influence the business.
- Capable of rigorously implementing and enforcing global standards, procedures and engineering work processes.
- Excellent communication skills.
