Job purpose
Direct the provision of Laboratory services for OQ8, acting as technical authority and owner of technical standards / codes / culture of safety compliance and quality improvement, to support the overall safe smooth and reliable operation of OQ8 through: (1) Oversees the testing, analysis and technical interpretations of test results activities related to feedstocks, intermediates, within the hydrocarbon refining process. crude oil characterization (distillation analyses,hydroprocessing, sulfur content, hydrogen purity, other parameters relevant to the refining process) of hydrocarbon-based materials such as crude oil, refined petroleum products, and various intermediates and by-products within the refining process, (2) Oversees the testing and analysis / interpretations of test results activities related to Water and Finished Products (Testing of water samples for environmental compliance and process optimization, Testing finished petroleum products including octane rating, cetane index, viscosity, flash point, and others.to ensure they meet specifications and regulatory requirements and Test for water quality analysis such as pH, turbidity, chemical oxygen demand, etc.), (3) Oversees the provision of high-level frontline repair and troubleshooting to all Lab equipment and guide to the effective solutions for critical operational problems to optimize business performance and in turn profitability (4) Oversees Quality assurance support to Operations, SCM and customers, (5) Leads both regulatory and value-added based technical requirement, (6) Interface with corporate technical support services to comply with license to operate requirements with integrity, availability /utilization, energy consumption, cost, emergency response, and product(s) and (7) Guide the assigned staff; in order to ensure that laboratory manpower, equipment, facilities, material, method and procedure are ready to support all process testing requirements, including special analysis, test runs, raw material and product blending.
The position will act in accordance with the OQ8’s Mission, Vision, Values & Strategies, as well as, policies, guidelines, and international standards, supported by an IT Technology platform, HSE standards, Omani’s government & other legal justifications, and best international practices in consonance with national objectives.

Education requirements
|
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or related field required.
- Master's degree preferred but not required.
- ISO 17025 accreditation (required)

- 16+ years of total experience within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry, with a minimum of 7 years of relevant experience in a similar role
- Experience within the Oil & Gas / Refinery / Petrochemical industry.
- Laboratory Commissioning and Start-Up experience in Oil and Gas or Petrochemical plant preferred.
- Knowledgeable about Crude Refinery, raw material, and product, gained through actual experience from Crude Refinery
- Familiar with Crude Refinery and Lab equipment, QC, and Application testing.
- Experience in leadership or supervisory roles, with demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team to achieve objectives.
- Strong expertise in hydrocarbon chemistry, refinery processes, analytical techniques for hydrocarbon analysis (e.g., chromatography, spectrometry),
- Strong understanding of quality management systems in the refining industry.
- Depth knowledge of compliance with safety, environmental, and quality regulations applicable to hydrocarbon refining processes.
- Familiarity with laboratory equipment, instrumentation, and maintenance practices.
- Knowledge in the use of LIMS (particularly Labware) and SAP applications for data management and equipment breakdown history.
